The Democratic Nomination is all but finalized & Barack Obama is the Nominee!
Now it is on to Three Stages
Stage #1: VP Nomination
Stage #2: Cabinet Nominations
Stage #3: States that can be Won on the Electoral Map
This discussion is based on a Dream Team, Fantasy VP & Cabinet, with a focus on naming the most qualified for the position and what they can bring in as far as voting blocks &/or States to assure the victory in November!
What I might do is update a tally here on the ongoing discussion as we wade through the possibilities.
Please keep in mind, we don’t want to have a “Democratic Drain” from the Senate, given the majority is razor thin at the moment and only about 30 seats are up for election this November.
Pool of VP &/or Cabinet Personalities I am linking each candidate in the pool to their wikipedia information for base info
Bill Richardson (D), Gov. NM
Chuck Hagel (R), Sen. Nebraska
John Edwards (D), NC
Stephen Colbert (R), Papa Bear Impersonator
Claire McCaskill (D-I), Sen. Missouri
Dennis Kucinich (D), Rep. Ohio

The Hillary Factor, what is best for her
a) Return to NY as Sen
KateStone writesshe would make an excellent Majority Leader to Obama’s Presidency. He has to depend on the Majority Leader to move his agenda forward. Reid is nice but a total failure…don’t want her as VP. Big mistake. He needs her in a key position in the Senate.
b) Supreme Court Nomination
c) NY Governor
d) VP – I
e) some other option?
What to do with Bill Clinton
a) Replaces Hillary in Senate seat (just heard this on radio)

I’ll start this out with my opinion I have posted everywhere but here on Ohio.
Without doing the Electoral Map math yet, I personally feel we can not count on Ohio coming through for us. They have repeatedly gone Red the last couple of elections and I think, regardless of whether there is corruption in the “black box” voting, they will not go Blue, save an act of God and apparently God does not want it.
Reason: Ohio, as part of the Rustbelt states, a general decrease in manufacturing sector jobs & “brain drain” is losing more and more of their base, political aware population, otherwise known as Democrats & Independents, to westward migration. The population remaining, for reasons beyond my comprehension, votes based on “God & Guns” instead of “Food & Jobs”.
Solution: Search for western states west of the 100th meridian and in particular the inter-mountain states of Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona & Nevada. These are the states that are receiving a lot of the eastern “brain drain” and every year they get more purple. Also their % of Latino population increases as well.
I think announcing Gov. Richardson early as the intended Sec. of State, will allow him to start mobilizing the Latino vote in these states. Of course, other than the obvious draw of him being a Latino, I believe he can draw a large % of the socially conservative Latino vote that base a lot of their decisions on their Catholic faith.
Step two is finding a prominent & popular Democratic personality within the intermountain states that can galvanize the base in the states, plus with Richardson’s Latinos, then draw in Independent and moderate Republicans who are looking for fiscal responsibility and an end to the war.
Because the Mormon’s influence extends well outside the boarders of Utah into the neighboring states, I consider Rocky Anderson, Mayor SLC as a potential candidate based on his popularity and stance against the Occupation in Iraq.
Sen Orin Hatch (R) UT has been around a long time & been very influential for western states in total during both R & D fed administrations, and his time is limited. Utah & the surround states will be looking for someone to step up to maintain their presence in DC. This would be a great time to step up with a D to fill this looming void.
Potential: westerners love Sec of Interior posts.

Many months ago I did a post on Daily Kos about a Clinton/Obama ticket saying that it would be a unbeatable ticket……I still think that..but why would Obama want Bill in the White House again.
For Sec of State—either Biden or Richardson
Sec of Defense–Clark or Powell
sec of treasury–this one I am still not sure about
the rest i shall consider more then get back with you…..
added them in, see ? about viable replacement for Biden in Senate, ~Hans

Oh, no, no, no! I just came off too long of gaming, came here to just do some writing about “me,” but got hooked on political battles instead, so don’t need a political game to top it all off!
Then again, isn’t that what i’ve crafted with this interactive above?

Hans,
Obama will need a COMPETENT and loyal team. Bush had loyalty but no competent people.
I think Hillary shoul get a Cabinet position — czar of Health Care. That has been her passion. I think she’ll work hard to prove herself.
John Edwards would make an excellent Attorney General. I think he is fair minded. He is independently wealthy so he wouldn’t be influened by unsavory and would stand up for the ‘little people’.
VP — I’m really liking Gov Bill Richardson. Maybe that’s how the west will be won!
Obama has indicated that like Abraham Lincoln he will cross the aisle to ensure that the greatest minds govern during his presidency.
So many positions to fill.
